One very lucky lottery player has won €5 million with Irish Lotto and whilst the winner’s identity remains unknown, it was revealed that the winning ticket was purchased at a filling station in Co Tipperary.
Ryan’s Central shop and filling station in Newport was flooded with people buying lotto tickets in the hope that they too get as lucky as the mystery winner. When Irish Times spoke to the owner, Tom Ryan he said, “The news came through to us in the pub last night and we couldn’t believe it, it made a right job of the night.”
“I rang Danny, my manager at the shop in Newport, and the rest of the lads and they all joined us and we had a super night. Unfortunately, we don’t know who it is. I’d be hoping it would be a local person,” he said.
One of the reasons for the sudden rush in lottery tickets at Ryan’s Central is that this isn’t the first time the staff has had reason to celebrate. Despite opening just a few months ago, the shop has sold a Lotto Plus ticket worth around €350,000, Lotto ticket worth €1 million and a Telly Bingo ticket worth €4,000.
“There’s a great buzz around Newport, especially this morning. The word got out early and loads of people were off checking their tickets but no one has come ashore yet anyway. Hopefully it’s someone local and I have a feeling it is, because we get a load of local trade on Saturdays,” he said.
In the meanwhile, the EuroMillions jackpot of €46 million was finally won after rolling over three times and the jackpot has been reset at €14 million for tomorrow night.
