A pensioner has won a lottery prize of €2.6 million in the Irish Republic’s weekend lottery draw. 77 year old Kathleen McLaughlin from Donegal won her Lotto prize as part of a syndicate with her with her husband, four daughters and three sons.

Mrs. McLaughlin intends to purchase a new sofa for her home and split the rest of the prize money between seven children and their families.

“I won’t get anything special, I tell you. I don’t really need anything, when you get to my age, there’s not much you need. I don’t know what to make of it really. If I had got it 40 years ago it would have been better use to me than getting it now at my ages” she said, “But I’m happy for the family.”

The retired home help’s jackpot is the biggest every National Lottery win in her area and was won with a Quick Pick with the winning numbers 4, 12, 14, 16, 21, 34 with the bonus number 22.

Mrs McLaughlin and her husband play the lottery every week as part of a family syndicate and the jackpot will now be shared between seven children, 30 grandchildren and six great grand children. “The good thing is that it’s not a vast amount of money when it’s divided among everybody so it will help us but not destroy us,” said the youngest son Sean.

The Irish National Lottery offers several games including the Lotto and a variety of scratchcards however, at its current price of €1.5 per line, the minimum price of a Lotto is €3.

For those playing the Euro Million Lottery game, tonight, the jackpot has reset and is back at £12 million.
