More UK Euromillion Scams to look out for

EuroMillions jackpot winners Dave and Angie Dawes who won £101 recently are being exploited by internet scammers. Several unsuspecting victims have been contacted by fraudsters claiming to be the EuroMillions winners in an effort to cheat them out of their money.

The spam mail has been received by thousands in the UK and claims to be from the Dawes’. The mail informs the recipient that the couple are giving away their winnings with just two percent being kept aside for a rainy day.

The e-mail then goes on to say that “We have voluntarily decided to donate the sum of 1,000,000.00 Pounds to you as part of our own charity project to improve the lot of 20 lucky individuals all over the world. If you have received this email, then you are one of the lucky recipients.”

It ends asking the recipient to reply to Mr. Dawes private email id with details of their bank account.

Camelot has released a statement informing the public that the email is not from the couple. Spokesman Simon Horne said: ‘It is not from Dave and Angie Dawes. People need to delete the emails and not reply or engage in any conversation. It is very sad that this happens.”

When the Dawes’ won their jackpot in October 2011, they had publically stated that they intended to share their new found fortune with friends and family. Mr. Dawes had said, “We’ve drawn up a list of about 15 to 20 people that we’re going to sort of make millionaires. Anyone that’s helped us through our life.”

Presumably, the fraudsters have used this to try and legitimise their email to unsuspecting victims. Camelot warns lottery players to pay no heed to such mails and advises them to delete it immediately.

In the meanwhile, the EuroMillions lottery has been reset and will be worth £12 million tomorrow night.
